Most problem with the good night’s sleep is simple. Sometimes patients wake up in the middle of the sleep with jaw pain, joint pain. They clench all through the night.
They grind through all through the night. Or sometimes patients are not sleeping properly. They’re very hyperactive in the REM pattern of the sleep.
A lot of times we work very closely with the primary care and also with the sleep doctors to rule out the case of sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is very under-diagnosed, very misdiagnosed, or I would say under-diagnosed problem. Too often people have sleep apnea, they don’t even know.
Patient a lot of times thinks you have to be obese to have a sleep apnea. No, it’s not the case. Sleep apnea can happen to anybody, young, old, healthy.
Sleep apnea is something that is very under-diagnosed, misdiagnosed, which leads to so many other dental problems. And once we work with the sleep doctors to get the proper sleep studies, and we know what kind of sleep apnea, if they do have, if a patient has a mild, moderate, we are absolutely capable of treating sleep apnea with numerous options, modalities that’s available in today’s age. But if somebody who has a moderate to severe, we usually work with the sleep doctor in providing the right care for them based on the type of treatment they need.
