Ridge augmentation or sinus lift. Somebody who has had a teeth missing for so many years. Usually what happens as we lose our bone, we start getting, we have sinuses that are right in on the upper part of the jaw right here and usually those sinuses tend to, when we lose a bone, we are encroaching a narrow space for us to be able to put the implant.
Implant has to go into the bone but the bone has two criterias. We need adequate height and the width. If we are missing either or, we need to decide what are we trying to build.
Are we building the width? That’s where the ridge augmentation comes in, where we are expanding the width of the ridge for the bone or the height. That’s where the sinus lift comes in. When somebody has lack of enough height between the sinus and for the implant that we need, we have to build that height so the implant when it goes in, it has enough structural foundation.
Just like a tooth, it needs enough height for the width and the height. Implant is a similar thing. Implant needs to have a same amount of density for the bone.
