What are Same Day Dentures?

Also known as immediate dentures, they are exactly as their name suggests. They only take one day to make, so you don’t need to deal with the inconvenience of going without your teeth. Typically, they are inserted immediately after any tooth extractions to allow you to learn how to chew and speak with your new teeth right away. This can help decrease the time it takes to adjust to your new smile.

How Do Same Day Dentures Work?

Traditional dentures require multiple appointments, which begin after your gum tissue has healed from any previous treatments, like extractions. Your dentures are crafted to fit into your mouth using a series of impressions and molds. Various appointments are needed to make adjustments to create the ideal fit before you are given your permanent dentures.

Same day dentures are a bit different. They are molded to your oral cavity before you have any extractions. You are then fitted with them after your teeth are removed. You will walk out of our office with a complete smile because we have an in-office lab. This makes it easy to get your custom-made prosthetic. Rest assured, it is of the highest quality to mimic your real teeth.

As your gums and bones heal after any extractions, your dentist in Jacksonville makes the final adjustments to your denture to ensure it fits snuggly to prevent any slipping or irritation.

FAQs about One-Day Dentures

You’ve lived with an incomplete smile long enough. You shouldn’t need to go any longer without your teeth. Now, you can enjoy a complete, functional smile with one-day dentures in Jacksonville. Although you’re excited to begin the process of rebuilding your smile, we understand you still have several questions about them. We take the time to address your concerns during your appointment, but in the meantime, here are the answers to a few of the most common questions we’re asked.

Do same-day dentures hurt?

As with any dental treatment, it’s normal to be concerned about pain. Although the dentures themselves will not necessarily hurt, you may experience some pain and swelling while you recover from your tooth extractions. As your gum tissue heals and you have adjustments made to your denture, you will enjoy a comfortable fit without any irritation.

Will my denture look natural?

Let’s face it, dentures have a bad reputation for looking fake. Although this may have been true in the past, you can rest assured your new smile will look natural. Our office embraces the latest technological advancements and uses high-quality material to improve the fit, durability, and aesthetics of your new smile. Your denture is custom-made to mimic your natural teeth, so no one will tell they are not your own.

What can I expect the first day?

We recommend you keep your new denture in place for 24 to 48 hours if possible. This gives your tissue a better chance of healing to the shape of your denture for enhanced stability. If you experience bleeding or it is too uncomfortable, you can remove your denture for short times. By the end of the third day, you should only wear your denture during the day.

During the first day, it is normal to experience minor bleeding and discomfort. The bleeding should subside on its own quickly. You can use over-the-counter pain relievers to manage any discomfort. It is best to stick to a liquid or soft diet for the first couple of days after getting your denture. As you heal, you can reintroduce harder foods.

Oral hygiene is also important while you recover. Gently rinse your mouth with cold water during the first 24 hours. Afterward, rinse with warm water several times a day for the next 24 to 48 hours. We’ll go over your aftercare instructions before you go home to protect your new smile from preventable complications.

How soon can I use an adhesive?

An adhesive will hold your denture in place, minimizing slipping and irritation, so you can speak, smile, and chew without any concern; however, you shouldn’t use one right away. It is best to wait until any extraction sites have healed, which can take about 7 to 10 days. This ensures a more comfortable transition after the gum tissue has covered the extraction sites. You may need to try a few different products to find the right adhesive for your individual needs and your preferences.
